Re: Ezemvelo: Game Auctions with Rhino
Rhino? The number is not quoted. Of course it is the species which fetch the most money

A very comprehensive PhD thesis:
Hübschle, A. (2016). A Game of Horns: Transnational Flows of Rhino Horn. PhD Thesis, Universität Köln, Köln
And some good data and overview on SANParks' rhino sales: 4.4.4. The sale of live rhinos as a fundraising strategy for national parks

The rhino sales section is enlightening, to say the least.
Re: Ezemvelo: Game Auctions with Rhino
Hmmmm..... given away at less than R15 000 per rhino . At private game auctions even " ordinary " impalas sell for R3000 , and rare colour variants sell for up to R1,25 million eachToko wrote:A total of 2103 animals out of a total capture of nearly 2300 were sold during 2014 for Ezemvelo, realising a turnover of nearly R31 million.
And rhinos at these auctions easily sell for R1 million each
Enough is enough

A whole lot of smoke screens have been used. This sure is an eye opener
As always the numbers etc. come out after two years. Especially in a field like Rhino sales, where things are changing very quickly lately, it would be nice to have something up to date.
Toko! Extremely interesting.

The entire thesis is very enlightning, I am done with reading nowPuff Addy wrote:The rhino sales section is enlightening, to say the least.
Some undertones suggest that state parks entering in sales started off the entire business with the ranching/breeding farmers being the catalyst for the illegal poaching of the second stage.
