Concessions in Kruger National Park

Post by PennyinSA »

I have recently had some cause to do some trawling on the internet to find out what the concessions and their being was all about. Two points stand out for me the most. Firstly that this particular publication is emphatic that the concessions will not be renewed and secondly I wonder how many of the concession holders actually fall in line with what Sanparks initially prescribed as being pre-requisites to the granting of the concession as I am not entirely sure how much these concessions are benefitting the communities nor the employees. One of the statements that is particularly telling is that it would appear from the rules and regulations in place that Sanparks polices the concessions more than it does the actual Park which I find very interesting. If anyone would like to read the whole paper here is the link - http://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/do ... 1&type=pdf

Thanks, Penny! \O

Interesting also the hunting that took place in the Makuleke Concession (Pafuri) from 2000, wonder if it still continues?
