7th Lower Sabie continued
The junior dogs that were closer to the road started to move deeper into the bush where the adults were sleeping, so after a few pics we continued on.
After a fast loo stop, it was back to the H4-1 and immediately a crowd appeared on alpha loop so we checked what was happening from the main road and it was walking lions, so we quickly plotted the next little circle close to the river before others picked up on it and the lions started to arrive, so we snapped a few pics and left just as the gang started to arrive.
A little further down the road Albert started moaning that we never take the dirt road loops off the H4-1, so as the dirt loop which bypasses the H12 bridge appeared I ducked down it for peace sake and then stopped for some GHB’s just so that Albert thought the loop was worth it, but I couldn’t believe it when spots appeared next to the road.
Albert’s teeth were now hanging out, so I can see that I’m going to get nagged to do these loops more in the future.
The cheetah seemed very relaxed and ready for a snooze.
After around 15 minutes it looked as if the cheetah was going to park off for a while, hence we started to cruise on, but then spotted some impala approaching from out the bush, so I slowed and then the cheetah started to show interest, which got me overexcited about getting cameras ready and then the cheetah started on a stalk mission which really got me wailing instructions as I didn’t want us to stuff these pics up.
The impala stopped not even 10m from the cheetah and hadn’t seen it, so I thought it was a done deal and kept waiting for the darn cheetah to explode out of its hiding spot, but after 5 minutes it was still hiding out and my arms were battling to still hold the camera up.
“What’s up with this slowed up cheetah!”
“Maybe it’s not that hungry”
Eventually the impala walked on and still had no idea the cheetah was there. I can’t understand why it never made an attempt, because at that distance I might have even caught the impala.
The cheetah now decided to sleep where it had stalked to, so the visibility wasn’t great anymore, hence we continued on.
Just before the causeway 3 male lions showed up on the opposite side of the river, so it was a stretch for the camera, therefore we just took a proof pic and continued on and then more lions showed up in the bush opposite Lubyelubye. There wasn’t a single car watching them which was strange for this time of the day.
Our breakfast had turned into an early lunch, so the Cow and I threw in plenty chow so that the rats would last until supper.
