7thSept
We packed up ready to leave for Nossab. We were ready for a bit of civilisation to replenish batteries, water
and above all a decent shower and clean clothes
Sunrise through the bushes.
On the way we came across this jackal with his prize, a young wildebees head and skin. He was on the edge of the
road and didn't budge, desperate to get as much out of this as possible.
Next up a road block. At first we couldn't see what it was. Then we saw a mating pair of lion lying in the road. We switched
off and waited to see what would happen next. The lioness got up and started walking along the road towards us,
followed by the male. They were very close. I missed the female but got the male, all the while with this whisper
in my ear - close the window, close the window, with me whispering -I can't. The car was new and our driver hadn't worked out yet how to get the windows closed with the engine off
Eventually we moved on and came across some wildebees next to the road,
followed by a branch full of sociable weavers and others.
We booked into Nossab, set up camp.
Another beautiful sunset ended the day.
As it got dark this chorus started, as it did every day at Polentswa. At first we had no idea what it was, until
someone told us it was the barking gecko. We tried desperately to see them but every time one got near to a
noise it would stop, and so it went on.
We walked down to the hide after supper. There were a few springbok hanging around othere wise it was very quiet.
Then 2 jackal started yapping and yelping, all the while getting closer. Something must be upsetting them.
Out of the dark slunk a leopard with jackals in tow. It had a quick drink then moved off with jackals following.
We heard them for ages. Apparently this happens most evenings.
We walked around the reception area and found the barn owls that we had been hearing.
Time for bed after another beautiful day. A little bit cooler this evening.

Oh, wow! I had already thought of writing something about the circle of the day with that beautiful sunrise and sunset... But then I came across that leopard.
How awesome must that have been
The chorus of the barking geckos is something that I miss most when having to leave the park again... but I've yet to manage to take a photo of one.
Fantastic day in the Kagalagadi!

God put me on earth to accomplish a certain amount of things. Right now I'm so far behind that I'll never die.

That jackal is interesting, Pooky...
I wonder if the head isn't a bit big for it to carry around? Do you have some pics of other tracks around it?
Maybe the Bots jackal are just stronger!
Mello, does that leopard have a name?

The feathers on the owls face look as if they have been embroidered.Alf wrote:Lovely close up photo of that owl

Yes the windows were a problem - the previous Fortuner if the key was on with out the motor running we could
operate the windows - just a matter of getting used to what works for this one - in the mean time the lion was a bit close
