A friend of mine has recently returned from Kruger and told me that there are major delays between Waterval Boven and Malelane due to stop/go roadworks.
We will be leaving in two weeks and were wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to avoid these roadworks.
At Waterval Boven we could use Schoemans Kloof.
Would going in at Phabeni be an option to getting to P/Kop?

Hello, stf! Yes, use Schoemanskloof, much better.
The thing is one can only book in at 2 o'clock, which could be a factor in deciding your route? Assuming you leave at old people time in the morning (early) you should be in Nelspruit in 3 hours (maybe 8 or 9 o-clock)
From there it is under an hour to Numbi or 1.2 hours to Malelane/Phabeni.
Personally I like to get into the Park ASAP, and it is quite interesting going through the "rural areas" on the way to Numbi.
However it is a grand new road all the way to Malelane (One toll gate) and one can shop there if needs be. Then go in and faf around the Afsaal area and picnic there. (About an hour from Afsaal to PK.)
So many choices!

Re: PRETORIA TO PRETORIUS KOP.
Pretoria to Nelspruit via Schoemans Kloof and stick to 100 k.p.h. and then N4 Nelspruit to Malelane.
Facebook posters have said that there are no stop/gos on "the grand new road" between Nelspruit and Malelane.
The Numbi and Phabeni roads can be a bit dodgy at times.
Coming back our last night is at Skukuza so we might come out at Phabeni.

Phabeni-Nelspruit is beautiful too, stf, as long as you take the R40!
Maybe others have other suggestions?

Agree with RP.
Would def take the N4 through to Melalane via Schoemanskloof.
This is my regular route to the South. Used to go via the "tunnel" but last trip there was the road works along this stretch, so went via Schoemans. The only problem is a lot of the trucks were doing the same thing. Just be patient.

A warning on FB today!
A warning for fellow travellers. We have just had a rock thrown at our car travelling from Nelspruit on N4 about 2km before Schoemans Kloof turn off.
