Flutts!
Do they just speak spaghetti on the tours - or English?
Those old Romans were well-built indeed!
(If not so well-endowed? )
Why no pics allowed of the ceiling?

At least they do a better job at preserving their heritage than we do!!Lisbeth wrote: ↑Sat Sep 22, 2018 12:03 pm One of the "curses" of Italy is that there are too many artefacts They simply cannot keep up with them and many end up falling to pieces, like the Colosseum was about about to do, if a private moneybag had not taken over and paid for it, luckily
Now it is Pompei's turn
Luckily I have seen it all, before tourism started its boom
As I told Vanessa, we used the churches to cool down on the hot days, there is always one around
Luckily we had pre-booked so we could skip the line. I also wouldn't have waited for 4 hours. It was busy, but you can spend as long as you want in the museums...no rush.RogerFraser wrote: ↑Sat Sep 22, 2018 1:36 pm Very interesting Flutts . Don't think I have the patience to sit for 4 hours just to get in would probably have given up and gone elsewhere -I tend to do the same in the gameparks when I see queues
It must be really amazing to see the works and artifacts in person just a pity it is so busy that you have to go with the flow .
All the tour guides speak English. I'm not sure why you're not allowed to take photos in the Sistine Chapel, but there are guards everywhere to make sure that you don't.

Re: A Month in Bella Italia
Sure I remember reading that the ceiling was damaged by all the flash photography before it was restored and afterwards they ruled that no more photos could be taken to preserve it

Re: A Month in Bella Italia
Even where you are allowed to take photos, mandatory NO FLASH! IMO they let in too many people at a time, which is also dangerous for the paintings; body pollution
