Thanks all for the comments \O

The lionesses were definitely in the mood for some pigs for breakfast. Duffy had an incredible look of purpose on her face ^Q^

Image

She was the first to start making a move - but sideways rather than forwards in an attempt to get out of the field of vision of the warthog. Her stalking moves were quite amazing to see O\/ O\/

Image

Image

Image

Fairly quickly she had ducked behind our car and disappeared into the bushes. The warthog seemed to have retreated a bit so Dawn managed a slightly easier route to get herself into position, passing right in front of us O/\ O/\

Naturally we really didn't want to interrupt the hunt in any way, but as other vehicles were already starting engines we figured moving a bit forwards would be fine and shouldn't disturb the warthog. Indeed after a couple of minutes all the movement had stopped from vehicles (some people obviously hadn't realised what was going on and actually drove off 0*\ lol ). The warthog were in a nice clearing and it was simply a case of waiting until....

Unfortunately for the Dawn who was the one to make the first move, that left turn following the smaller warthog was just too tight and she lost grip. I'm sure otherwise she probably would have caught it.

Duffy came wandering back looking disappointed, shortly followed by Dawn

Josie with her poor eyesight had left her daughters to the hunting, but she now made her way over to join them. It's still rather upsetting to see that her vision has deteriorated so much :-(

The girls found comfy spots for a while

Image

But then the warthog seemed to have total memory loss and came trundling back down the hill they had just run up. Maybe all the spring flowers had done something to their brains, but rapidly the girls were back up and into action for a second time ^Q^ ^Q^

The second hunt was further away and a bit harder to see what was going on, but again it seemed the warthogs managed to beat a hasty retreat. With the day warming up nicely the lionesses went further into the bush for some shade. If you had driven past at that point you would have never seen them!

Baby mongoose - how cute!!! 0/0

Lion shots are great too, of course, but I admired most of them already on another thread,
so mongoose takes the prize here for me lol

Spotted hyena is also very special and I'm sure D was over the moon O\/ Not so much the guard though O**

Also, once again more great lion sightings over the course of the year ^Q^

After the second hunt the girls found a very shady section deep in the bush so there was only a tiny view of them. We continued north and enjoyed some great elephant interaction at Hapoor O/\

The open areas around the waterhole had plenty of elephants and plenty of flowers!

Image

Image

At Hapoor this chap was generating his own jacuzzi lol

Image

Before diving right in O\/

Image

Others were already in the water and using their periscopes to good effect ^Q^

Image

As another herd approached this little one had to take a break

Image

The original jacuzzi bull was now having a great time in the water

Image

So much so that he had decided the water belonged to him alone, much to the discomfort of those he kept shoving out the way 0:

Image

He eventually made a very triumphant exit from the water O:V

Here's a video of all the fun going on \O
