One can work out the direction in which one is looking by looking at the winter shadows! ..0..

It depends at what time the picture was taken : 9am or 16pm ? And there are many North-South roads...

Aha! No, the sun is always from the north slightly in winter, which is what I mean! ..0.. (You can see it is noon-ish.)
