While at KK we made trips to both the Auob and Nossob sides of the park, via the Dune Road. That's one of the advantages of this camp - having four options for your drives - East or West to either riverbed, then a choice of North or South. Here are some of our sightings over our stay there:

One morning we decided to drive the Lower Dune Road to KijKij, which turned out to be a lucky choice. There was a caracal at the waterhole with a very strategic approach to breakfast.

Breakfast is served!

After scarfing that one down it went back for a second helping….

50 - 55 minutes later, SUCCESS!

About 20 minutes later, much to our amazement, it catches yet a THIRD bird.

You know that feeling you get after a big Holiday meal where you over stuffed yourself, and are then miserable, barely willing to move? I think that's how the caracal was feeling, as it waddled over the dune and out of sight.

A grumpy kestrel and sleepy owls lol

Them caracals are clever in that catching game, much better than the jackals O**

I wonder though if it isn't more feathers than meat :-? The caracal seems to be very satisfied

You also got a slender mongoose  How did you make it sit still? lol I have got two pics of a slender mongoose, both flying low across the road, taken through the wind-screen :O^

The caracal sequence is splendid ^Q^ ^Q^ ^Q^

The legendary caracal O\/ O\/ O\/ Sooo glad that at least one of us got to see it in action O:V
I'm not sure if the individual we saw was the same one - also very public and definitely not half as skittish
as all the rest that we have seen before. :-?

But, as usual, the rest of your photos is excellent too ^Q^

As for the collars... maybe they indeed were removed between you seeing them and us arriving -O-
