Re: Insect or Invertebrates Identification
Klippies: "BTW: I love these keys very much
Immagination runs high when you read these truly wonderful terms such as katepisternal
When you know that these are just setae, it's less exciting to read".
There is an old adage that identification keys are “Written for people who cannot use them, by people who do not need them”. I'm in the former category.
I don't think these pics will help much w/ venation,
but here they are:

Re: Insect or Invertebrates Identification
You won't believe, but it helps, the last photo shows some good stuff.
The cell dm end to the M2 base looks different for Australoechus/Anastoechus vs Systoechus (have been looking at the wing images in the Afro Diptera Manual now for several days
to see the difference). Yours does not look like Systoechus.
Australoechus would have the cell br longer than cell bm, which is not the case here, so I'd go for Anastoechus

OK, it's actually very easy to see, even Richprins will see the difference comparing the crossvein between the cells dm and M2

Re: Insect or Invertebrates Identification
If you look at the photos for this one, we can tell the genus ID, too

This fly belongs to the same group as well, but without wing photo, we can not make a call on genus.
Perhaps ExFmem has more photos?
