The tree is an exotic orchid tree, likely Bauhinia variegata 0*\ (or Bauhinia purpurea or Bauhinia X blakeana)

In the old days landscaping of the camps involved a lot of ornamental exotic trees. :O^

I like the elephant on the koppie ^Q^
