Do you have a photo of the rear end of the first one?

Which section of Marakele is this? The lower one where the entrance and the camping area is?

Unfortunately that is the only photos I have.
Yes it's the lower section \O

It may be the range restricted and rather rare Kinixys lobatsiana, Lobatse Hinged Tortoise (which has a serrated back end, officially referred to as 'serrated posterior carapace rim') or the more common and widespread Kinixys spekii, Speke's Hinged Tortoise. -O-

Next time you go, watch out for the Lobatse and check the bum! lol

Hinged tortoises (genus Kinixys) are the only tortoises with a movable hinge in the carapace, allowing a more or less complete closure of the rear part of their shell.
The Speke's is common in Kruger and elsewhere, Alf, you may have seen it!

Oh, great! We'll be going to Marakele regularly now too. :-0

Nice sightings and I love that red sand road to new sightings. ^Q^

God put me on earth to accomplish a certain amount of things. Right now I'm so far behind that I'll never die.
