I stopped at a garden centre yesterday. And got some of this wood. Is their own source, so much cheaper
Is Prunus (cherry) and is also hard so produces a nice bed of coals

I have used it this summer.
The burning wood is quite aromatic, but not distinctly cherry.
If the weather isn't too bad this weekend
May try squeeze in another braai

So I ended up braaing on charcoal
It was a bit chilly, and the charcoal takes a lot quicker than the wood to be ready to braai on.
Will have to wait until spring next year to use this.

My brick braai.
I can’t put the charcoal / wood on the bricks as it doesn’t burn well.
I used slightly raised stainless steel grids. But after 3 years they are disintegrating.
So I bought some galvanised metal grids.
But I have since seen online it isn’t a good idea to burn on galvanised steel as the coating gives off a bad smoke / chemical.
Doesn’t seem conclusive though.
Anyone with experience using this?
Thoughts?

They don't really have to be stainless. Even if they get rusted, with the heat the rust gets "sterilized", just my experience

The meat isn’t going on to this.
Have a stainless steel grid for that.
This is just for the coals / wood
