South African National Parks (SANParks) today announced that a suspected poacher was fatally wounded in a contact with guides from a private walking safari concession in the Kruger National Park (KNP).
The incident took place in the early hours of Friday 2 July 2021. The guides were on a guided walk with one guest when they came across a group of three suspected poachers. It has been reported that there was an exchange of gun shots and a suspected poacher was fatally wounded, a rifle, ammunition and poaching equipment were recovered not far from the contact point.
The South African Police, Ranger Services, K9 and Airwing Units are following up on the other two suspects.
Counselling has been offered to the guest and the guides as part of the debriefing session.
SANParks is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and will be able to make further statements once the investigation has been completed.

How do the poachers get into the park? Because of the distances, they cannot just get through the fence and walk :-?

Yes they can stay in the park for weeks and walk for scores of kilometers, Lis! :yes:

They get Driven in as Normal tourists mostly and dropped off and Picked up after the deed is done > they all have Cell phones to phone out for a lift

Anyone can climb the Kruger Fence I did many times between Sabi Sands and Kruger when the Fence there was up >> no deterrent at all
