Re: Paul Kruger Gate
In the early 1980's before we had kids and before crime ..we used to leave work at 16h00 on a Friday arvie in my VW Beetle ..have a steak at Nelspruit and arrive at Kruger Gate and put up 2 strethers next to the Beetle at the gate and slept there listening to the Hippos, Nightjars, Lion and Hyena and leopard coughs . Next day into the Park ..Shower etc at Skukuza campsite ..Drive around all day ..Put up the Pup Tent at Lower Sabie for Sat Night ..Braai and Sunday break camp and exit at Orpen and drive home ...Petrol was cheap then and we only had to drive up the hill to JHB ..now its 2-3 days hard driving at 100x the Petrol price

Re: Paul Kruger Gate
Found out that the gate was already there around 1970, with a drift leading through the Sabie River for low level access and a dirt road linking with the Doispane road to Skukuza.. The "new" gate complex was built by SANParks a few years later when the tar road from Hazyview was completed by the provincial authorities, who also built the high-level bridge for them.
The same architect who did the gate complex did some admin buildings and guest accommodation in Skukuza.
