A provincial police spokesperson, Col Donald Mdhluli, said that according to police reports from the area, protesters have placed sand on the road leading to the gate, however “cars are able to pass”.

“The Calcutta police are on the ground and are monitoring the situation. The local municipality (Bushbuckridge Local Municipality) has reportedly promised to remove the sand,” he said.

This is a developing story. More updates will be provided as new information is received.
