Adventures at Maroela.
The fires were burning all over the area, making chronic sinus problem worse, also affecting my eyes, Tambotie camp was evacuated, firefighters out til 02H30, trying to control blaze, could hear fire crackling, tree breaking, etc. We were told we may have to evacuate if fire got worse, so cleared camp as much as possible, hitched up and tried to get a little sleep, sorry no photos as cameras in vehicle, including phone. Heard a noise in tent though it was a hyena as loads around camp. Switched on torch didn't see anything, next bang, so OH got wearing only undies (in case of having to leave in a hurry). Next thing all h*** broke loose in tent, OH drop kicked a honey badger, who was trying to raid our cool drink fridge!!!. I had managed to undo the screen next to the bed, (it opens from the outside, shone the torch on the spectacle below all the while thinking Hoedspruit is 70km one way trip, will they let me out the gate!!! OH realising what it was, removed a tent pole and hit it with that, bent the pole (steel). Anyway HB left, OH brought the fridge into the tent, HB came back and climbed all over the kitchen. Managed to wake all the campers on the back of the site. We think that in our packing up we had put left over braai on top of the fridge and it leaked.Made a change from unruly campers.

We had decided to leave Maroela early, as my eyes were really bad, also no game views, roads closed etc. In hindsight we should have gone north again, but managed to get a week at Skukuza instead. Very, very busy as always, anyway lots of drives, fair amount of rain, saw a fair amount but nearly always in the distance. Lots of hyenas, buffalo and elephants. Surprising considering the time of year, very few impala lambs.

Welcome to the forums, glori! X#X

Wow, certainly quite a trip full of adventure and plenty sightings.

Remarkable, the young small buck you saw like steenbok and duiker, very rare! ^Q^

Nice camp setup you have there.

What does OH mean? :o0ps:

Looking forward to more! 0()

OH means Other Half, Partner, Husband, Wife, whatever you like to call the person who shares their life with you. Be Polite!!

Could not post more on fires, all video and files too large.
