Great pics at the weir and nice tusker! \O
I've just taken another look at the Tusker site and still can't find this chap. Does Aat have a tusker ID thread on this site??

Thanks Flutts, Lisbeth, BC, Pooky, Mel, Amoli, JN, it was an exceptional Cheetah sighting, the most cheetahs we've ever seen together.

They are plovers, NOT lapwings! 0'

Thanks RP, I'm still trying to get used to the revised bird names - one you'll NEVER hear me use is the new name for the Grey Lourie - I keep wondering which 3 year old thought of that one.

For those of you who haven't visited the "What is it?" thread, I was interested to see how quickly it got identified.

Image

Surpisingly it's not actually a flower but a blossom from a Beobab tree.

Day 12. Lower Sabie.

Today we drove the Gomondwane Loop - S137 - S28 again, one of my favourite morning drives, ending up at Croc for a super breakfast.

But first, in the loo, an Owl Moth

Image

Not far from the camp, a Fish Eagle having breakfast with the sunrise

Image

A Sabota Lark?

Image

an Ele taking a mud bath on the Gomondwane Loop

Image

At first I thought I had a leaf on my door but it turned out to be this cute little grasshopper who was only about 1cm long.

Image

Just after we turned onto the S137 we ran into a herd of Buffs.

Image
Image

and much further along down the S28, a pair of Giraffes necking

Image
Image

In typical female fashion, she was leading him on and as soon as he got serious she turned away

Image

and then came back to lead him on a little bit more.

Image

He gave up and walked off shortly after.

At Croc Bridge, this Tree Agama was....well....in a tree

Image

As we were walking back to the car, Mommy Wartie strolled into camp with 4 piglets.

Image
Image
Image

Back to LS via the H4 and S82 where we spotted this young Whitebacked Vulture practicing takeoffs and landings

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

The afternoon drive took up back down the Gomandwane Loop but first a quick look at Sunset Dam where we found a Blackwinged Stilt

Image

and an Openbilled Stork.

Image

At Nthahdanyathi Hide a Greenbacked Heron caught a snack

Image

and when we were almost back to the H4, a young Lion in the grass

Image

By this time we were running really late and had to do 26 kms in about 45 minutes so we cut 5kms off that by going up the S82.

As always, when you are late there's something interesting to see.

I think these were the Lions we saw yesterday morning.
