We hadn't done the H-9 for many years, and it can be long and boring!
Notice it doesn't really look like rain soon...
I like this pic straight into the sun, quite the green contrast!
Wonder what tree it is?
Now the problem with the Dimwits is that they are all in their 40s now, and have an endearing sense of self-confidence especially after a tea or two. So they try and be clever and suggest different routes than what I do, just to irritate me.
RP: "Right, just go straight on until we get to Letaba, then tar up to Mopane Camp! Easy."
Frew: "But shall we not go driving on utterly pointless dirt roads instead?"
Dw: "Ja! then we can be wasting time and fuel also!"
BL: "Ja! And the roads will rattle our bones and we can get really hot!"
Frew: "And of course there is no water along the way, so no animals!"
Dw: "It are sounding perfect!"
They have also discovered the stupid concept of democracy, so we duly turned north into the desert on one of Harry's stupid roads...look at this delightful oasis, for example:
It was also strange having an uncluttered boot, with only the Magnificent Cooler and Effeminate Basket. The trailer also creeps you out every time you turn around as it looks as though another vehicle is about to crash into you...

Needless to say a bone-cracking hour later we were back on the tar road without having seen a single thing.
I was quietly sitting plotting my revenge and drinking some sulk teas when the phone rang with a very important call from the media regarding some or other Park problem!
Everyone kept suitably quiet and I was holding my pose quite well and sounding intelligent!
Media: "So Mr RP you say the implications are so on and so forth regarding the mandate of the conservation agency etcetera?"
RP: "Yes absolutely. Ramifications suggest compliance regarding all ambits of the general paradigm-shift for extra-plenipotentiary activities."
Media: "You are incredibly well-versed in your field, Mr RP. It is a privilege indeed!"
RP: "Well, we do our best, young man."
Then the inevitable happened, unfortunately...
RP: "...in fact it would be a traveshty if the problem were not addressed."
Media: "Excuse me...a traveshty?'
I don't know which bastard Dimwit began giggling, but I began giggling myself too (you know how it is) and quickly had to drop the call.
Anyway, we were in Letaba by then and I got out and went into the bushes to reconnect the call while the idiots were rolling around in the parking lot...
When I was done we saw this!
And Northward!

The water hyacinth is terrible at that time of year!
Some more views of the Letaba River:
A whole shebang of birds! I think the white ones are shpoonbills!
It were hot!
