17th August 2019

We took the H4-2 up to Lower Sabie with a detour off to Dukes waterhole. There was lots of general game on the way up.

And a baby Ellie trying to stomp something which gave us a good laugh 😊

The drive to Lower Sabie was uneventful, lots of general game to keep everyone occupied.

Image

Image

And some sleeping lions..

Image

Just after Nkhulu, Kelly spotted some Sable on the far bank.

And then a Leopard jam… we patiently waited our turn to get a spot to view the Leopard. There were few OSV’s around, so the traffic was moving. We eventually found a good spot and snapped a few pics.

The Leopard was not going anywhere fast, so we moved on to Skukuza.

17th August 2019

As we passed Alpha loop, we spotted a Lion family on the move, they had teenage cubs with them and were having quite a time to get them to listen, much like humans

And a couple of small breeding herds of Ellies, with a few little ones.

Skukuza was packed, cars parked everywhere along the roadside.

So we went on to the Golf Club for lunch, and nearly got trampled by a midday Hippo on the Golf Course road.

The toasted sarmies at the Golf Club were great and very cheap, it’s a far better place for a lunch time stop than Skukuza.

Hey RP,

KNP has become more about chilling than chasing sightings but we did get a few good ones.

17th August 2019

After lunch it was down to Malelane Gate, we took the S114 down to Renosterkoppies where we found a group of old Buffalo.

Image

A bumblebee managed to get in the window which caused panic in the car with much screeching, so we move quickly along down the S23 back to the H3 and down to Afsaal. After Afsaal we took the S118 / S119 / S25 / S114 loop before we would leave via Malelane gate.

On the S119 we found a few more sleeping Lions in the river bed.

And a few 100 meters down from them was a tiny Leopard lying next to the road. Luckily there were only two cars, so we had a great view of the leopard. It was after 17h00 and the sky was darkening, so not the best photos but was an awesome sighting.

The Leopard was watching a herd of Impala but was not too interested. Then it got up and dashed off across the dirt road and into the bush on the other side.

As the other cars moved on, we waited and watched, and soon enough the little one reappeared on a rock deep in the bush and joined another Leopard. We were not sure if it was a mother and cub or a mating pair ? :-?

It had been a great, long day and we headed out Malelane Gate. Roxy contacted us to let us know that they had an issue with their car, so we quickly headed back to Marloth Park.

End of 17th August 2019.
