Found out the road was tarred in the late 1970s by the Roads Department of the Transvaal Provincial Administration, Lydenburg section, up to Babalala. There they met the Pietersburg section tarring from Punda southward.
Before that it was a dirt road. The main windmills, Lamont and Boyela, are over 60 years old!
