Our next day involved most of the family heading out for a morning drive whilst H and myself went cheetah tracking as a bit of a treat for her turning a teenager (which was during early covid lockdown so quite a delayed treat).
Fairly soon after setting out we got the signal of 'Mike' but he was apparently moving so we continued on to try and find 'CJ'. This took us right to a corner of the park that we would never normally see and once we had a weak signal we hopped out the vehicle and continued on foot.
The signal seemed to be very confusing as it would come and go in all sorts of directions... but at one point I thought I saw her sitting in an area opposite where we were walking before she bounded off. I lost track of where she went whilst trying to get the attention of the guide so no-one else actually saw whatever it was that I had seen
Plenty more climbing followed
But CJ was giving us the run around. We walked back to the truck and a bit further along the road picked up a 'very strong' signal. Off we hiked again and after some serious distance and up and down we still couldn't find her.
It was then decided we would rather backtrack and go after 'Mike' so we drove all the way across the park (in a thunderstorm) and after failing to locate him tried again to find CJ and eventually after 8 hours of combined hiking and driving had to give up.
I couldn't quite believe it... I've now done the cheetah tracking twice and failed to find them... I must be bad luck
That evening we had another night drive planned. The sunset was amazing
We saw plenty of springhare, scrub hare, jackals and other general game on the drive but only managed to find one aardwolf this time
