"National parks are just islands of privilege, often, in a sea of poverty,” said Hapiloe Sello, CEO of SANParks, at the reveal on Thursday.

Bullshit. National Parks are a reliable instrument of job-creation and financial input, creating immense foreign exchange benefits all the way down the food chain. Their very presence alleviates poverty, which has been caused by the ANC government, by the way. As Harry says, community involvement is a double-edged sword, leading to unrealistic demands.

There are 5 government departments dedicated to alleviating poverty and creating jobs. It is not SANParks' problem, they are doing enough.

"Fortress Conservation" is becoming a really tired old trope from the previous century, used to deflect from government uselessness and corruption.

They'd better be careful, if not they can say goodbye to foreign visitors. Moreover, there is still the highjacking problem and the criminals are coming from the communities they want to include O**
