I get conflicting info about accomm and self-catering in Etosha.
Maybe someone in the know could help out here:
Found info on
http://www.namibia-travel.net/travelgui ... camps.html
telling me that there are no self-catering options available anymore.
However, looking at this website
http://www.namibian.org/travel/lodging/okaukuejo.html
it tells you that at least certain units still have kitchenettes and a braai.

we can go to Windhoek by plane, then...
easy to rent a car ?
and going to Etosha ? (after the map, it seems about 200 km)
then small camps (like said by Mel) with braai ? or ?
is possible to stay 3 weeks or more ?
rand and Namibian $ (I think) are at the same rate ?
I search something for next year
(I had already saw... birding in Roumania or Croatie... or...
)

It's been about 8 years since I visited Etosha, but info from mates who have been there recently indicate that not much has changed inside the park. Now days there are numerous lodges and camping places outside the park, but within, there are the same 3 rest camps - Okaukuejo in the west, Halali in the centre and Namutoni in the east.
The rest camps are similar to Kruger in nature, having camp sites or self catering bungalows. Okaukuejo and Halali both have floodlit waterholes adjacent to the camp and night game viewing is a favorite pasttime.
Etosha is one of my SO's favorite places.
Yes nan, there are many vehicle hire companies in Windhoek and the drive up to Etosha is very interesting on excellent tarred roads. The Nam $ is the equivalent of the Rand in value and there are many good shops on the way up to Etosha to buy your supplies.

There are five camps inside the boundaries of Etosha by now.
Two are supposingly luxury.
And there are self-catering units at Halali as well.
According to the website I provided above.
But the other website says no more self catering.

Hi Mel,
We are normally camping because the chalets are very expensive and some not for self catering. A new camp opened in the western section called Dolemite camp. Its rates are very reasonable for single persons compare to KTP wilderness camps

At Okaukuejo some of the chalets are not well equip for self catering and even lack a braai area, but you do get a fridge with tea /coffee station
http://www.etoshanationalpark.co.za/acc ... /okaukeujo
Halali will be better for self catering while at Namutoni you will be required to eat at the restaurants. Eating wise Etosha is much better than KTP, but the shops not great providing basic cooldrink, beer, wood and bread at least plus curios.
Onkoshi camp is also a new addition to NWR. We have not stayed there before but the location looks good. Only problem you cannot get there in your own car and need to rely on the park for game drives which is a bit pricy for me.
There are a number of private lodges and camping areas near the entrance gates at Okaukuejo and Namutoni so the options are wide. Some are not too expensive either and a good alternative.
