I think the poles are for fencebuilding, as Lis says.
It is another mindless media statement, IMO...without checking. How could the trucks have been trapped at Kruger gate by unrest?
The poles come from the Hazyview side...so unrest would have stopped them before reaching Kruger!
Tourists would have picked up the trucks leaving at CB...not even sure if they will fit over that bridge! But they will try!
But this may be more sinister...The Pafuri-Punda Gate Mozambiquan transport route has more or less been going on for a while now, despite indications that Moz. travellers must stay overnight, which simply does not happen!
Truckers from Phalaborwa would absolutely love to transect Kruger, skipping the roadworks and Tollgate around Malelane! Watch this space!

Quite true Richprins, I may point out that Sanparks have
this mission statement, "connecting with society". So to
enhance this pathetic idea they just would possibly apply
such a crazy "exception to the rule"!!!.

To think that pathetic tar road will carry the strain of
such laden trucks, Sanparks

Unrest in the Bushbuckridge area would imply trucks entering at Orpen Gate, with wood from Tzaneen? After turning around at Bushbuckridge?
Crazy!
I assume "Bushbuckridge area" includes the villages along the Hazyview-Kruger Gate road?

Never did I like the tar roads, so maybe a blessing in
disguise for me. At this rate soon no more tar roads
to be proud of but heck it suites me fine!!!

Who cares, though to prove a point indeed!!! Kruger roads network
just cannot carry and support such loads!!!!
Doubt if the roads are any better after exiting Kruger!!
Heavy vehicles using KNP as short cut

Just saw on the other forum that heavy trucks and other vehicles are (or were) being allowed to transit through KNP to get around the community protests. SP state that it is an uncommon occurrence and they made the decision to help the communities get needed stuff through. Say what? Isn't it the communities who are protesting in the first place.
What is the opinion of others here?
I think it's a rubbish decision, uncommon or not. I don't pay good money and travel thousands of kilometres to look at haulage trucks in a wildlife reserve. What next?

Not the best decision IMHO
"uncommon occurrence"
I hope so!!
