The interesting thing is that this road was a dirt road for most of its life...only became tarred in the 1990's, as an alternative to the busy Numbi-Skukuza road.
Phabeni gate then followed later...it was a bit strange going up north from Numbi and encountering this grand new road leading right!
Good planning, though!
Saw my third ever leopard there when it was still dirt...1989

On entering the park through Phabeno on 31 march 2010 we found these Pride of the Cape in bloom
