The pretender is a handsome guy.

Don't think I would have liked that cobra as a neighbour!

He certainly was very handsome Mel.

We kept our eye on the cobra and made sure we always knew where he was

Thanks harrys, he was awesome.
We didn't have much option if we went too close he would disappear down a hole, so rather have him where we could see him

We went across to the lodge on the far side of the river. There were no guests so the manager allowed us to
sit in the lounge/bar. The barman was away with the key so all he could give us were glasses and ice. Fortunately
we had our own refreshments

Later in the afternoon we went back to the waterhole. A couple of jackal were hanging around with this one
taking a drink.

One pair of the lions were lying a little way from the water. They serenaded us again for the next two nights.


The shower cubicle at the camp. The toilet was of the same design. One needed a strong constitution when
using it We all showered before it got dark for obvious reasons!! We discovered our water tank had an
airlock in it when we filled it at Nossob so there wasn't nearly as much water as we thought. (There was no water
at the campsite) SO and I showered with less than 10L of water. We just had enough for the 3 days there with a little
help from one of our friends.

I'm a bit lost as to what lodge you went to? Rooiputs or Polentswa (The latter, assume, seeing you were in Nossob)
If so... my comment would be: Really? That much money to sit in such a rather plain communal area...

That water setup is also something of interest. You take as much you can carry and fill it in a kind of tank in the camp?
Any chance of warming it up? Particularly in September (or July, as it is...) when it's not that hot throughout the day?
And the same water goes into flushing your toilet?

That was Polentswa lodge, a sister lodge to the one at Rooiputs. It was quite tired looking, and the whole lodge was a tented affair. It didn't
sound as if they get too many guests either.

The water set up is as you say, a tank on the bottom of the trailer which we filled (or thought we filled) at Nossob. We use it from there. There
is no tank at the camp and the toilet is a long drop - no flushing, just a hole in the ground with a toilet with seat above the hole. That is why I say
you have to hold your breath especially in the middle of the day It was quite hot so cold showers where fine before it got dark. The one couple
had a small gas geyser that could heat their water. If you look carefully you can see our own PVC/canvas bucket hanging from the frame work in the shower.
We filled that with water and it had a shower rose with a tap on it. That is how we could judge how much water we used. It is very rustic Mel - but lovely
