This is one of the most scenic coastal drives in South Africa and well worth the effort.
It is the also the first part of Route 3:
The Whale Route and features dramatic coast line and beaches, fynbos biosphere, Jackass Penguin colony, baboons, whale watching, birding, shark cage diving (can view these great whites up close and personal in Gansbaai) hiking and more!
Snail near the sea at Pearly Beach
Blue Crane (Grus paradisea), SA’s national bird was spotted as we drove along some farm ground roads. Also known as the Stanley Crane and the Paradise Crane, is the national bird of South Africa.
The elegant Blue Crane stands about one meter high and is almost entirely restricted to South Africa in its distribution.

Black Shouldered Kite also sat on one of the farm fences.
We arrived at Cape Agulhas it is located in the Overberg region, 170 kilometres (105 mi) southeast of Cape Town. The Cape was named by Portuguese navigators, who called it Cabo das Agulhas, Portuguese for "Cape of Needles" . After noticing that around the year 1500 the direction of magnetic north (and therefore the compass needle) coincided with true north in the region.
Entrance to the lighthouse, which now hosts a museum and rustic restaurant.
Did not venture to go up the lighthouse, did not fancy those steep stairs. The wind was also blowing gales, true to the Cape.

Beautiful blue cranes and my favourite small raptor
One year we stayed at Struis Bay for a week so Agulhas is well known
We will be staying at Noordhoek from Jan. 10th to Feb. 7th Maybe we can organize a mini meet?

Very interesting, AN!
I like the one-legged kite!
Ja, that place is windy...never going there again...
My camera asks "are you sure" when deleting pics!
