Another visit to Rooibosrant Dam in August 2014 found us enjoying a wonderful sunset.

Beautiful Dewi \O

I see the dam is not dry and is accessible again. We could not get to it last time we stayed in Bateleur and talk was that it was one to be done away with

\O Duke & Flutt's.

The only viewpoint now is down to the loop at the end of the road. You cannot drive along the shore either way anymore (see map on first page).

We heard nothing about it due for closure Duke. It's one of the bonuses of staying at Bateleur camp. If they get rid of the dam, there would be little point in visiting apart from the camp itself. :-?

So it is still not accessible like in the past, pity. A map we have shows all the dams that are due for closure and this is one of them.

As I have previously mentioned on this Forum, we won't be staying at Bateleur anymore due to the restricted access to this beautiful, peaceful oasis. It is a travesty, in my opinion, to choke this little slice of paradise off from the visitors to Bateleur. I suppose there are good reasons, but I haven't heard any, and can only surmise it may be part of the gradual transition to limiting the self drive option. This is a shame, as this spot was a jewel in the crown...

I could post many, many lovely pics taken there, but if it is no longer a photographer's/wildlife lover's destination, I think that needs to be made clear.

Sorry, Dewi, please forgive my pessimism, :-( but we need to let folks know it's no longer the joy it once was. If I'm wrong, please correct my misinformation, as I haven't been there lately. 0/0

Your photos are truly exquisite!!!! O\/ ^Q^ Thank you for taking me back to bygone days. 0/0

No worries ExFmem. \O

Go visit while you still can. It's one of my favourite places in the park and it would be a shame to loose it as you said. \O

We had the place to ourselves that afternoon. No other visitors. The next morning, one van joined us briefly, then left the place to us again to enjoy in peace for our IO & rusks. O/\

The parking spot does not move RP. It depends if the tide is in or out. O** ;-)
