A case of reckless and negligent driving has been opened at Phalaborwa SAPS and investigations are underway. No arrests have been made yet, nor have suspects been formally identified.

Now how can suspects not have been identified? There were 4 taxis and dozens of tourists, surely they should have filled in all their details on their entry permits?

One has to present identification at the gate for every occupant, with driver stipulated.

In this case it has nothing to do with Sanparks, but if there is an accident due e.g. to lack of maintenance, Sanparks can certainly be asked to indemnify any damage to things or persons. That is general law and they are insured against that kind of claims....I think. Like I am insured against any damage happening to a visitor on my premises.

It is just a scare tactic, Lis. If there is negligence on the part of SANParks they get sued, and this has happened often. Claims and settlements have amounted to many tens of millions over the years, which do not reflect in their statements and normally have a non-disclosure agreement attached.

In this case, if the taxi was allowed in without the proper documentation and accreditation, SP may be liable to an extent.

Alcohol abuse and speeding are allegedly the reasons for a tragic accident in the northern part of the Kruger National Park in which three people lost their lives over the weekend.

The accident happened on the road between Mopani and Shingwedzi.

Tourists, who asked not to be named, alleged the taxi involved in the accident passed them on the road traveling at a very high speed.

South African National Parks (SANParks) announced the passing away of three day visitors to the Kruger National Park (KNP) after the taxi they were traveling in overturned.

Other tourists also alleged that the northern part of the Kruger park, Mopani and Shingwedzi in particular, turn into a massive drinking spree over weekends with no application of the Kruger Park’s restrictions on alcohol adhered to or enforced.

It is also alleged that taxis leave the camps quite late and then speed to reach the exit gates before closing.

“It seemed that most of the visitors were speeding to get out of the park before the gate closed. Visitors just do not give a damn to adhere to the rules of the park anymore, and that is a shame,’ the source told the Herald.

Several others who suffered minor injuries in the accident were treated on the scene while the more seriously injured were transported by ambulances to hospitals in the area.

Preliminary reports suggest that there was no other car involved, however the SAPS are investigating the incident and circumstances around it.

Exactly what I've mentioned before. Speeding in the north has been going on for a few years now. I have noticed speeding in 2009 already

And after a few accidents SP still denies everything about speeding. It's easier to lock a topic that's negative and hope the problem will go away

Sanparks cannot "lock" the media

To have people dying on the roads of the Kruger Park sounds like something from another world

I have seen my part of speeders but mostly delivery vans, which were not exaggerating too much on the other hand Sanparks staff pickups definitely running around 80 to 100 km/h.
