Found a pic of us pondering the future in a canyon somewhere near Sorry Sorry, I think!

More swollen rivers!

Forgot to say we went onto the beach at Henties to see the Atlantic Ocean...a first for some!

The Witrenoster with its ridiculous wheels was ideal for this, or so we thought!

After all, we had conquered rivers and saved Auslanders!

But we got stuck within metres, much to the amusement of a hundred or so locals, and a little tractor came to pull us out...who would have thought the car could not go on sand?

That ocean is the coldest water on earth, in my opinion!


Anyway, next day Southerer towards Swakopmund!


Different scenery again, some famous rocks:

And a major target, the giant dunes there!

The rest of the Dimwits, notably Shert and Dwarf, had been planning for this and we had dragged a board along all the way from ing Pretoria just to "sled" down the dunes!

The dunes near Swakop are indeed huge, some of the biggest in the world maybe?

I was not into this sort of exercise, so sat in the car mostly!

The board broke quite soon, predictably, so the Dimwits tried to paraglide a bit on the way down...they still have sand between their buttcheeks I think?

We had another few thousand km to go to our next destination, swinging inland to the Sossusvlei area!


More giant dunes...red this time:

Note the line of trees along the (for a change dry) riverbed there. They provide nourishment for a wide array of desert animals from elephant to giraffe!

Our campsite at Sesriem...note the fence, so some of our purist members would not like it!

Saw a Cape Fox there that night, my only one ever, quite magical under a full moon!

Well, after all those dunes are world-famous You are a wimp! How could you resist going down those dunes?

Dune 7 is the highest dune in Namibia ( seven highest in the world). The dune has been measured at over 1,256 feet (383 meters) and is named Dune 7 because it is the seventh dune one encounters after crossing the river Tsauchab.

That evening we went to the giant dunes at Sossusvlei, about 10km away?

The drive is mind-blowing, all along an ancient riverbed with more of the huge camel thorn trees. Everything is huge and ancient there!

The Dimwits climbed this dune too, although I don't think they went to the top?

The vlei was dry anyway...before that it used to be a huge annual flamingo attraction!
