\O Great shots BT, am sure I saw you fighting with Mopani restaurant staff last year this time also. Last year it was over them not allowing you to have breakfast on the deck. Think they see you coming and quickly devise ways of getting under your skin. =O: =O:

finally got to the 'Consession Manager'.
I wonder if they learn something from this, or do they just go on serving the next client in the same way :-?
Eurybrachidae
Never seen a thing like that  I love all your small "thingies" O\/ O\/
We can only hope they learn from it - I think the waiter went and had a sulk, I didn't see him after I'd ripped a strip off him.

Glad you are enjoying the macro shots!

Hey BC, you don't make up your TTs, do you

Yep, that was me, they came up with the lame excuse that the food gets cold because they have to carry it an extra 15 metres, what a crock!

I think that Mopani is the worst camp I've stayed in recently, the staff there have a definite attitude problem, probably due to the snob status the camp used to have. No all they have is poor service.

Not my favourite camp, Mopane! I go there or through there every year. Did have a very good breakfast there with the family in 2011? -O-

Well spoken out there, BT! \O

Not my favourite camp either, I stayed there this time so I could get to Thingamylongname water hole - which was a complete waste of time.

Thanks for the support \O

Day 7. Balule.

This morning we set off towards Satara down the S90 and about 1 km past the S89 junction we ran into these...

This is my very poor attempt at reproducing the classic Nigel Dennis shot..

Image

and some more conventional pictures...

Image
Image

Also along the way, a little Giraffe with a designer double-afro horn-hair-do

Image

a Kudu that couldn't wait to cross the road

Image

a Red-Crested Korhaan

Image

a BBj that got up and called for its partner

Image
Image

a friend of Dick Terrapin who had taken up residence in a roadside puddle

Image

A Slender Mongoose crossed the road in front of us and instead of vanishing into the undergrowth, stopped and took a look at us

Image

We didn't get to drive the notorious S100, opting instead for the shorter distance to a loo stop at N'wanetsi Picnic Spot and from there on the H6 to Satara.

These Butterflies were mud-puddling on some elephant dung! Next time one lands on your hand, just think where it's been!

Image

and this juvenile Bateleur was after a road-kill brunch

Image

The only thing of note on the way back to Balule was this White-Headed Vulture at Gudzani East waterhole.

Image

The afternoon drive took us to the Olifants River bridge where a Giant Kingfisher was looking for supper

Image

Back towards the camp we found a Hyaena den on the H1-4 before the S89 turnoff

Image

On the S89, this may have been the Lioness we saw this morning

Image
Image

On the S90 about 1.5 kms from Balule, the Hyaena den we saw on our last trip in April/May was still there with 5 cubs of various sizes

Image
Image

Back at camp the bug invasion contiued with the night of the Cicadas. These sound like helicopters when they arrive and try to fly into your face

Image

This one won first prize at the Ugly Bug Ball
