Alien bush trip December 2018

Are you sure the creepy people in the car following you didn't have on really BEEG shoes, wigs, and red noses? Maybe they even had tiny tricycles in the trunk to ride around on in the camps???

The next day we decided to take it easy and not drive around too much

We decided on visiting the Mooiplaas waterhole again. On our way we found this tawny eagle



We arrived at Mooiplaas waterhole with not much going on but i can just park off there and sit



Some elephants eventually arrived



Wow this windmill is in great shape



Then we turned around and went to Mooiplaas picnic area to park off there

The sound of all these birds flying from one tree to another...... very loud. Then when one decides it's time to drink water the whole flock arrives as if it's one bird





We drove the little loop along the river and saw this fellow checking us out



We saw this nest up in the tree. ID please



We arrived at camp and i went inside to cool off under the aircon and take a nap while Mrs Alf took the little aliens to the restaurant for milkshakes

I think the big windstorms these days may be hard on the windmills?


The ID requested is Apple Leaf Tree!

Those are queleas, but not sure what eagle that is a the end...put it on bird id? Dunno if the Wahlbergs breed here in summer?

More than a strong wind is needed to break a windmill. They are made for the wind But long time no maintenance + many strong winds would do the trick

It is funny how the mill looks perfectly all right in the first pic, taken from another angle.

After your last mention of the Moiplaas waterhole, I went there and saw absolutely nothing, not even that the windmill was broken

I like the terrace at Moiplaas picnic site, where you have a lovely view of the river

The chick could be a Wahlberg's eagle, but as RP, I know nothing about their nesting periods

There was also water next to the road on our first visit at Mooiplaas waterhole but with the extreme heat it dried up quickly
