The small Honey Badger is adorable as well. I would never have thought that I would find this ferocious animal so touching !

What a day!!! First you got that really nice encounter with Hanri and her cub, then those cute little squirrels and a "tame" steenbok that doesn't run of straight away and then… drumroll… the most flabbertastic sighting one can have of a honey badger, in my opinion! Although I got to see something similar by now as well, the quality of your sighting makes me go drooling all over my keyboard

Alf, Flutts, RP, Dindingwe, and Mel - thanks to each of you for sharing in my excitement over the HB encounter - it really was special to us. I'm surprised it's not seen more often since it appears they move the cubs quite regularly??? Anyway - moving along…

The Harsh Reality of Animal Life - Finding food is difficult enough. Killing it without being injured is yet another challenge. Keeping it from other predators and scavengers - not so easy. Here's what one Tawny Eagle had to endure just to get a bite to eat:

Forced to move yet again, the Tawny flew over the dune, so we didn't see how this example of the daily struggles of wild animals ended.





Whenever I'm having a rough day, I think back to how incredibly harsh the lives of the Kalahari animals are, and that really gives me perspective on how good I have it.
