I entered my first competition this week - it's being held at one of the local camera stores and the prize is a Nikon D3200 with extras. In the unlikely event that I win, I'll use it instead of my D5000.
GOOD LUCK
Another one you may want to enter is Nature's Best Photography magazine's Best Backyards contest. Unfortunately there is no prize except to see your work in print and on-line and a copy of the issue it's showcased in, but it's still pretty cool.

Thanks ExF
Been there, got the t-shirt - I've had many pictures published in aviation magazines and been paid for them. I don't give away my pictures so that magazines or newspapers can make money off them. I'm still considering suing The Lowvelder for stealing my pictures from this forum and publishing them

.

Can anyone help with an ID of this dragonfly? Seen at Matambeni hide in KNP in early November 2014.

Here are some clues for you, arks:
Very stout with light pterostigmas! Eyes above red! The dark hindwing patch distinguishes it from
Crocothemis and
Trithemis, which have amber patches.

Thanks Toko, I'm not sure your clues are much help as I don't know a thing about dragonflies and I don't really have the time to delve deeply, I was just curious

But I did have a quick look thru your insect book for dragonflies and following your clues, I think that it might be a Pantala, Wandering Glider, Globe Skimmer, Global Wanderer Pantala flavescens ?

Nice try, arks, but your dragonfly has dark patches on the base of the hindwings and the Pantala has clear wings.
I have made an entry for you in the book, now you can find it
