OD, bad reports for a good reason and hopefully they become less as more become aware and educated.

I have just been in contact with a well known ex SPF, ex AW member who’s touring the park from North to South. She’s very objective and fair, but was shocked at the amount of people that she spotted out their vehicles at sightings south of Letaba, so I feel all types of education will help.

I have no problem with the technology, but agree it must work to the good.
OD, try not to just post bad behavior reports (negative), but also post a few reminders of the etiquette and rules as well (positive)

Hi all!

I just found out about this topic and I would really love to come in and try and answer all I can!
For those who don't know, I am the Admin and run Latest Sightings - on all BBM, WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter and http://www.latestsightings.com sightings reports.

I firstly want to reply to some posts that I think need some comment:

I have been thinking about this and there’s one way to turn it into a positive:

Encourage all those that receive and post sighting updates to also post speeding, suspect activity, rule breakers, etc.

The auto update gang could police themselves and it could make KNP a better place as all types of issues could be reported

Did that while touring around Skukuza with the gang 2 weeks ago.
mr. Mabunda himself overtook us at 70kms an hour while going to our meet with BC and the gang and I reported that "sighting" on the Kruger sightings Whatssapp group.

This is what I received back:

"This sight is for sightings only and if we continue this we will be reported to the sightingsboard and Sanparks will shut us down."

I would definitely like to point out that I didn't reply with this statement, and that isn't what he said, this is straight from the group:
"This is a sightings page - if there is any complaints contact parks board number provided on the green pamphlet. This is a second time in a week (That staff has been reported for speeding) If it keeps on going on as a member of parks board this speeding will stop!"

So I think he ment that SANParks will stop the speeding, not the sightings?

Then I must definately give you my apology OD.

I have read it wrongly then.

Those darn small screens in combination with bad eyes can play tricks on you.

Just an update on the cell phone coverage in KNP:

I have a mate who’s fairly well connected in the industry and 3 months ago they toured KNP with officials with the aim of providing signal throughout the park.

This would make sense if you tie it up with the ridiculous survey they are doing on the other side, asking what price you would put on guaranteed sightings, what price you would put on individual sightings, whether your sighting would be spoilt if the animal had a tracking device visible etc etc. I hope this is not going where I think it is.

The BBM, iPOD and Apps are more or less the same as fitting tracking devices on the Big5 and other special sightings...it all "guarantees" seeing the Big5, etc! I therefore presume that people using these technology (BBM, Apps, etc) will all be excited about that survey and the possibility of taking technology even further. I can imagine a lot of visitors chasing around with antennas sticking out of their windows!
