Nothing new would have happened and I had stayed there for quite some timeKlipspringer wrote: ↑Thu Apr 25, 2019 3:44 pm Why did you leave? Sometimes these games will lasts for two weeks
I cannot promise you lions on the H14, but Sable Dam has a charm of its own
I am still trying, RogerRogerFraser wrote: ↑Thu Apr 25, 2019 5:22 pm Loved the little foal in-between all the Impala with its fuzzy fur .
Know the feeling with the birds we used to have access to some super equipment before (rugrats used the schools professional 400 & 500mm lenses) and now we can get nice pictures with what we have but that extra bit of detail is always just out of reach
Are you going to become one of the rich and famous?Richprins wrote: ↑Thu Apr 25, 2019 5:32 pm What a lovely selection, Lis!
That is a very big lioness!
Hmmm....once Kruger becomes only for the rich and famous one must stay there and visit all the waterholes in the area during winter!
I love the monkeys on the golf course!
And the zebra kindergarten...
There are two or three small loops that are worth doing November? Depends on the rain that has fallen. This was Feb. the greenest month of allPeter Betts wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2019 6:44 am The H14 is a GREAT road especially the little bit that you go off road right down to the River ..one day I will get that leopard that lives there ...Cant believe how green it is ..so I reckon it will also be green when we go there in Nov (Shingwedzi )
Morning and evening almost always some kind of life
Thank you Pumbaa I appreciated that the guide asked me the next day if I had seen them

Re: Enjoying The Kruger Park Without Staying In The Park
After some heavy rain and a still very cloudy sky I entered the park without high hopes regarding sightings.
Knowing that mating lions are able to go on for days I headed towards the spot on the H14, where I had found them last time.
Soon after passing the gate a pick-up passed me at at least 100 k/h maybe more. No time to take note of the number plate. A little further on the pick-up had had to stop for a big elephant bull in the middle of the road and he, the elephant, did not seem to be in a very good mood
The driver tried to pass on the right, but the elephant moved over to stop him
The driver then almost went up to push the ellie out of the way and unfortunately he managed.
With the tires screaming he stormed away. The elephant hurried back into the road, but the car was already far away and the bull continued into the veld.
The pictures do not do justice to the whole incident and everything happened too quickly to get it on film and I had to shoot through the windscreen. There are pics missing in the sequence as they turned out too bad To say the least I was shocked by the behaviour of the driver of the pick-up as he had also put in danger the car next to him. No, I did not report it as I did not have the number. I should have done it the next day after having uploaded the pics on my laptop and I really do not know why I did not
The lions had moved out of the road and both were snoozing away
15 minutes later
I left them to their dreams.

At Ngwenieni only a Red-billed Hornbill
A lark (Flappet or Sabota)
A bush-chicken fooling around
My favourite Sycamore Fig Tree. Finally I had found the right angle
An LBS (never give up )
A Cape Glossy starling as ornament in a Mopane bush
Swallows
Juvenile Fork-tailed Drongo

Re: Enjoying The Kruger Park Without Staying In The Park
Arrived at the Bridge over the Letaba it was very obvious that a lot of rain had fallen
Same spot a few days before
A buffalo far out with a green necklace
A nice flower on an island of debris from upstream
Why do the steenboks almost always disappear when you draw near
When I saw this one
I thought that I was going to face another mad elephant, but he was calm and let me pass

Re: Enjoying The Kruger Park Without Staying In The Park
What did I say about steenbucks running away . He probably knew how handsome he looked in the middle of all the flowers
A Hyena crossing the road very, very, very far away
A Martial Eagle
River beds which had been dry a few days before
A windblown raptor
Which tutned out to be a Yellow-billed kite
Something that looks like a sub-adult Martial Eagle

Re: Enjoying The Kruger Park Without Staying In The Park
Finally I had arrived at Mopani:
An African Darter and a non-breeding great egret
On the deck of the restaurant, a rainbow skink
The mandatory pic of the view
Most likely I had some kind of lunch, but it cannot have been memorable as I
do not remember anything about it.
This must have been a rather boring day, because I do not remember much, apart from the skink and the incident with the mad couple ( Elephant bull and pick-up driver). Anyway the photos say that I saw two buffalos
And then arrived at
Did the S49
Another buffalo along the road
And a small group of elephants
On one of the loops on the H14
A Black-chested Snake-Eagle
Sorry for having been so boring I hope that the next drive will be better

Whew....are you in a hurry to finish? Not at all boring, just lots to take in.
I don't think I've ever seen a Drongo with those markings.

Ja, not boring!
Haven't seen that snake eagle in ages!
Mooiplaas windmill is very effective!
Lots of water all over, so different from a winter visit!
And pretty steenbok in flowers...
My favourite is the bushchicken in the tree!
