Mozambican national with hunting rifle arrested during anti-poaching patrol in Kruger Park

A Mozambican national has been arrested during an anti-poaching patrol after he was found in possession of a hunting rifle in the Kruger National Park at approximately 08:20 yesterday morning.

According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, rangers were on patrol in the Houtboschrand ranger section when they discovered human tracks. While following the tracks, the rangers encountered two men, one of whom was armed with a hunting rifle. The rangers ordered the suspect to drop the weapon, but both individuals fled.

A chase ensued, and the rangers managed to arrest one of the suspects. The man, a Mozambican national, was in possession of a hunting rifle and nine rounds of ammunition. He faces charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, trespassing in the park, and contravening the Immigration Act.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Masoyi periodical court today.
