Take photos of braai's, fires and the like upwind of the smoke.

First time I heard of someone getting frostbite after burning his hand in a fire.

When you burn yourself...get the appendage onto an icy surface ASAP!

No..too late...it falls off!

you are right... let the burnt hand (or what else) under/into cold water to stop the spreading of the burn
but beware ice can also burn you

Remind me not to get first aid from you RP.

NEVER put ice or cold water onto a burn - sacrosanct rule of first aid. Use cool or luke warm water.

You could also wrap the burn in clingfilm.

Dewi..these are not "skin-breaking burns"...so just blister-preventing!

Hence the dreaded ice-bucket...it is for medicinal purposes should one be in a remote spot!
