Mopane worms form an important annual source of protein for impoverished communities... millions appear in the summer.

The thing is, they ignore the fence and appear plentifully...presumably less plentifully? outside the Park as well, over most of Limpopo province. :-?

The topic has been discussed ad-nauseam elsewhere...but basically boils down to a PR exercise, as the costs of using a ranger or two to escort worm gatherers in the Park, plus the increasing cost of transport, is uneconomical...

Each gatherer could simply be given the equivalent amount of meat for a fraction of the price! 0*\

Next they will allow "harvesting" of the Marula fruit, as almost all Marula outside of the park ends up at the factory here in Phala. O/

My "Garden Landscape Executive" was brought up on Impala meat, does this mean he will get a fair chance to harvest this as well??? 0*\

An interesting quote from Dr Mabunda earlier this year:

please note that we cannot run a separate
process outside the legally defined parameters governing developments in
national parks. Public participation is part of the legally defined process.
We cant bring it forward for specific interest groups or pressure.
