I like the first house more, but as you say, one doesn't drive all that way for the house!

Those caterpillars are very interesting to watch.

I don't know if I could have enjoyed lunch with a snake watching me!

The steps were daunting even before sundowners
If they could transplant that first house over to the location of the second then it would be a total winner

That snake was amazing to see Flutts - quite small so we weren't too concerned

Tues 25th June

It was not the most pleasant start to the day for me as something caused me to be violently ill in the night. We'll never know exactly what the culprit was, but it was presumably food poisoning that had me occupying the bathroom from about 11pm until gone 3am

I really didn't think I was going to be able to head out on a drive for the day, but it was Grandpa's birthday so we had planned to do lunch on the deck at Lower Sabie which I didn't want to miss (the celebrations more than the food)... I was also very aware that on my very first visit to Africa as a youngster, a similar illness had stopped me going on the last morning drive which was when the rest of the family got to see lions for the first time, so I had a serious fear of missing out on some amazing sightings

Convinced that I would miss out on something if I didn't go, I somehow dragged myself out of bed and took some meds that would hopefully prevent any further bathroom appointments

Something that we hadn't anticipated was the queue at Crocodile Bridge gate. I think the school holidays in Gauteng were different to ours by a week or something, so there were loads of extra cars and we hadn't done a pre-booking so we had to wait for over an hour to get in





Not the best start to the day, but eventually we got into the park and made a mental note to do pre-bookings from then on!

For something of a different route we decided to try out the S28, but it really didn't produce too much. We found jackal and an elephant who seemed about as grumpy as I was feeling









Our ground hornbill sightings continued again with a pair grabbing frogs from a bush









There was another really old-looking jackal on the S137



We headed south down the S130 to try and cover all options, but it was totally quiet... so much for thinking I was going to miss out on something

Whew, what a queue!! Hope you felt better soon...nothing worse than having a tummy bug!

We've never had much luck on the S28.

Far too many cars that day Alf. I was tempted to queue jump and say I needed the bathrooms... medical emergency

Yep food poisoning is fairly quick thankfully but this was the worst I've ever had it
So many cars, and even more frustrating is when you're in that loooong queue and someone arrives who has a pre-booking gets to skip right past you - hence the decision from that point onwards that pre-bookings were essential
