So once we had settled in to the hotel, we took a walk onto the quayside where Northwestern Crows were squabbling over fish scraps. Bald Eagles were everywhere. Soaring overhead and sitting on top of the masts of the boats.

An excursion up Pillar Mountain above the town gave us vistas to die for and our guide, Linda, showed us some of the flora of the region.

Next we went over to Fort Abercrombie to enjoy the scenery. I was in heaven as I noted Harlequin Ducks and Pigeon Guillemots offshore.

That evening, we dined together after an introductory talk and slide show from Linda. I had a fillet mignon - it was delicious. Turns out to be the only red meat I'd eat for dinner for the remainder of my time in Alaska.
