I shudder to think, my better half, one elly wondering
off into the bush, thinking, "bloomin hell, what was all
that introspection all about"!!!
Friggin woman invited me to destroy their mode of transport!!!
Crazy woman, me back to the bush urgently!!!

Due to existing contractual arrangements with Open Safari Vehicles (OSVs), they have paid for the annual operating permit and are authorised to enter external gates 15 minutes before opening time to ensure fair distribution/flow of traffic.

I am not too sure that it's fair, but that's the way it is.

Think it’s unfair

Actually don’t have a problem with this. Very seldom first into park even though at gates before opening. You also have staff etc entering before gates open so any animals that were possibly going to be in the road have moved off. If there are going to be any interesting sightings the chances are high of them getting spotted by OSV with all eyes on back who are still in spotting mode as they have just entered the park, where after an hour or 2 of driving they are starting to get bored.

How to speak like a game ranger
By reading this article you will be able to recognise the animal you’re after.

While moseying through the Kruger National Park in the back of an open safari vehicle, the radios suddenly break the surrounding solitude: “Ngala yi famba yi ya ka qivi“. Your heart races as the game ranger accelerates into the bush… but you’re lost. You know that you’re after “ngala”, but you have no idea what it is. The curiosity is unbearable, and you’re too shy to pluck up the courage to ask.
Don’t worry, by reading this article you will be able to recognise the animal you’re after. It turns out that rangers tend to use a bit of safari slang (part Shangaan part isiZulu), but here is a list of Shangaan words you are likely to hear:
Ngala: Male lion
Mkhumbi: White rhino
Xinkankanka: Cheetah
Mpfuvu: Hippo
Yingwe: Leopard
Mahlolwa: Wild dog
Nyama ya swi vandanza: Predator’s kill
Ngwenya: Crocodile
Ndlopfu: Elephant
Nyathi: Buffalo
Qivi: Drinking hole
Koti: Vulture
Wansati: Female
Nhutlwa: Giraffe
Mhisi: Hyena
Famba: Animal moving

Is there a change in policy for the OSV early gate access?

[Long waiting times "thanks" to new rules]
Dear SANParks team,
I don't understand! I went on a guided safari Saturday but instead of entering the park directly as usual, we had to queue and wait for 45min. Since Nov 1st, the 15min early entry for guided vehicles was removed.
I don't mind waiting when I drive myself, but one of the reasons for which I always also book a guided safari is the fact that we can avoid the waiting and enter directly... Do you want to kill the safari guide proficiency? Or what is behind this decision?
Since now everybody queues at the same time (self drive and guided safari vehicles) the waiting time for everybody is much longer!
So when I entered by myself Sunday, the numberous guided safari vehicles lengthened the already long time...so this even makes the ecperience for self drivers unpleasant.
Seriously, what or who is behind this decision? Why can guided safari vehicles not enter the park 15min begore gate opening so that waiting lines for paying safari tourists and individuals are much longer?
Thanks for an explanation.
