Beautiful sable sighting.

We always hope to see them on the S30 but no luck yet.

A pic or two for the sable thread, Pumbaa!
Great bird pics again!
I am always fascinated by those rocks in the riverbed, with their various marks...a story to tell!
And a ghost sighting.

Tuesday, 16 February 2016 – Crocodile Bridge – Biyamiti
Driven roads: H4-2 – S 28 – S137 – H4-1 – S79 – S21 – S114 – S23 – S139
Today was once again moving day and after everything had been stored away, the first morning coffee had been drunk we carried on and even had to wait still a couple of minutes at the gate at least we are meanwhile used to our morning procedure. First stop was once again at Gesanftombi and today an elephant bull was around and had already dug his private waterhole
as he obviously was extreme thirsty.
A bit hidden we also spotted a grey heron although all the other water birds we saw the previous days were not around at that early hour. For sure we once again turned into our favourite road and the sun was about to rise so needless to say that we stopped for a couple of shots.
Lots of impalas were feeding in a desert whilst the sun came up
and also a rhino mom with her calf close by was already up.
Although the road was nearly dead quiet we had a great time in travelling along there and we only saw a brown snake eagle in a treetop
and another steenbok
and then for a long time once again nothing until we nearly reached the turn off into the S137 as there we were caught in a traffic jam – Lions and even a lot of them.

The leading lady and the boss had blown already for break-up and they stood up first and started to trot off but not all of them followed.
Once again the sun came from the right side so we could capture all these beauties in the best morning light.
He was an impressive male although his mane needed an extensive brush and he had a fresh nasty cut on his nose
Gladly he came extreme close to where we stood and appeared from behind a bush
simply to carry on following the leader
and also more lions now appeared from nearly everywhere which could not be seen whilst lying down and one after the other followed the leading lady and the huge male.
to be continued.....
