Although they are very convincing fakes, occasionally these tusks go missing. The elephant herds living in the area are often the thieves, removing the tusks or destroying them.

Actually, more accurately, they began at first with real tusks when the camp was built (the days before poaching) and the elephants repeatedly came and removed them for some reason...
So henceforth the fakes!

We stopped at the loops on the Olifants River, going North! Lovely early-morning, light!
And saw absolutely bugger-all all the way to Letaba!
