I always wash my own dishes / plates in Kruger
A) It's not an issue. Happy to do it.
B) I think that if you leave the dishes smelling of food, it will attract some sort of animal in the night (genet, badger etc) that can only cause breakages and make a noise.

When the kitchen is outside we always wash the dishes after dinner just to avoid the naughty badger

Bugger that! I pay a fortune for the accommodation, and I don't know of any tourism destination that makes you wash your own dishes!
