New Year .... so let's start 2017 with a new named tusker: TSENDE (named after a river north of Mopani)

He was in the potential tusker section but I met him during my last trip and another tusker friend met him too recently.
Now we have a good view on him from all sides including ID details so time to add him to the tusker section.
(find the small holes in the left ear....)

Hello aat,
Really nice to see your recent pictures of my old friend too: Mandzemba! I love the picture of him lumbering up the bank from the river. I can vividly remember him coming up just like that and cross the road and start to scratch his bottom on that post when I saw him last time!
I was in the North (Letaba) for a few days in late September 2016. I drove all over (Mopolongo loop, Babalala, Mopani, Mooiplaas) in search of tuskers but to no avail!. I did see a couple of large breeding herds at Boyela water hole and thats about it. I was sorely disappointed not have come across a single tusker in all ten days I spent in the park and not to see an elephant on the Shingwedzi river. Oh well, there is always next time!!

Hi Aat, Thanks for naming Tsende - he sure is worth being called a tusker. Also thanks to all the tusker hunters for recognizing him as exceptional and sharing your finds with us.

He looks relatively young, maybe not more than 40, so we should see some interesting tusk development in the next 10 to 20 years.
( Aat - you are going to keep your TUSKERSOFAFRICA website going for that long, not so ? )

( Welcome Jay - 10 days without a tusker ! I know what that is like, not nice. Do you know the quote "only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun" ? Now elephant are somewhat like that, go and hunt them between 10AM and 4PM around watering points or out on the grassy planes. But when there is plenty water in the veld it is time to start focusing on treescapes and cloud formations.)

welcome here and I hope to find you often here with tusker pictures or comments. I think THE place to be for tuskers.
Mandzemba for me is special chapter , first saw him in 2009 and without any doubt I took many pics of him, convinced he would be a great tusker, just 6th sense. Between 2009 and 2016 I saw him 5 times in 7 years and I am not every weekend in kruger . It's fascinating to see how he develops , his tusks are really growing and also this time from short distance ... they are thick and impressive. Hope you will see a few next trip !!
