I must admit, I have seen a few of these orange ribbons in the Phala area. There are a good few people that live here that make use of the sightings app. A lot of them sit at home and wait for a good sighting to be posted and then head for the gate, they end up in a queue at reception discussing what they might see. 0*\

Does it cause a lot of extra traffic in the north?

Flutters, I wouldn't say extra traffic, but definitely more vehicles at reported sightings than there would have been if it was not reported. ;-)

Who of you has ever used these things to find cats or other "attractions"? Does it work? Can you check at the camp - let's say before leaving for a late afternoon drive - and then go and find what was posted there? -O-

It must work, otherwise people would stop using it.

On our trip in 2012, we were battling to find cats and sitting at Sunset Dam the Brat checked the BBM group and saw there was a leopard and lion sighting on the H10. We agreed to have a look and found both sightings...but they were not at all over crowded.

Aha. So the BBM sightings are more real time than OD's service?

I'm not so sure Toko. I think they all share sightings.

I think OD's updates are more current than the BBM stuff, but I think it's shared as Flutts says :-?

Maybe OD can tell us -O-

I have used it twice in April to find wild dog and found them both times. Obviously the reader has to use their pip. “Wild dogs sleeping next to road on the H5” is very different to “wild dogs on the move on the H5”

\O Thanks, BC, that makes is a partially working tool to find sightings and can explain some part of visitors congregating and speeding. Probably a lot of channels out there to share real time sightings and contributing to the problem -O Kruger getting closer to the guaranteed sightings thing of the private lodges ;-)

One more reason to stick to the no coverage areas \O for me.
