It was almost getting beyond a joke those years whilst we waited for the new causeway at Crocodile bridge to ACTUALLY be built. Mozambique received free building material on so many occasions and still the causeway remained unbuilt. What was eventually built is NOT fit for purpose and I would love to know how much money was wasted, uhhhmmmm spent on that little debacle. Sanparks is constantly calling for help to assist with monetary donations in the fight against poaching of rhino and elephant as well as help for the innoculation of wild dogs against rabies and distemper and here they are vaunting this ridiculous idea. Just for the record I will do a cut and paste of my reply (typed in an absolute fit of temper- I must concede) to the e mail that I received as an IAFP.

Let them make of this what they will:

Dear Mr. Sekela

I have NEVER read such a load of HOGWASH in my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this supposed to be BULLSHIT BAFFLES BRAINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why does the Kruger National Park (Read Sanparks if necessary) need a 50 (plus) klm tarred road in a pristine wilderness area.

Why does the Kruger National Park need another camp when it is supposedly the law that all the concessions are going to revert to Sanparks – more property to allow to deteriorate???????????????

Why does Kruger National Park need a picnic site with a BLOODY BUS STOP???????????? I ask with tears in my eyes how many people are going to frequent this picnic site??????????

The South African Public is sick and tired of the likes of this kind of deception being pulled off by parastatals and the likes of your company who have jumped into bed with them!!!!! Enough is enough is enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This will go to court – mark my words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I started reading very assiduously but found that not only was this report totally one sided, it was also completed baseless never mind being a base report! Sorry I could not bring myself to read of one more high water bridge nor width of tarred roads knowing full well that this will be a HIGHWAY TO HELL AND DEATH for many of our animals – this is our heritage and the commercialisation of the Kruger National Park needs to be thwarted by as many people as possible before Sanparks ruins KNP as the ANC has ruined our country!!! Put that in the media if you like – frankly I do not care – when no traffic impact assessment was even carried out I have to believe that nobody in your Company cares about wildlife or about our heritage!!!!

Yours in Parking and NOT prepared to take this sitting down
Penny Legg

Much as I appreciate the sentiments PennyinSA, I can't help feeling that this approach probably won't help the cause. Perhaps the justifications for opposing need to be a little more scientific?

Hmmm..... does anything help at all -O-
because we have see that once Sanparks have decided on something , then nobody and nothing can stop them from going forward 0*\
Remember , Sanparks is a Government appointee to administer South Africa's national parks , and we know who and what the government is and how they go about matters in this country 0*\

I take your point. But we (the public) did manage to contribute towards changing the Malelane hotel into a tented camp which may or may not ultimately be built . . . . What I meant was that it may do the opposite of helping if your objection is not a considered objection.

All of the objections to the concessions were TOTALLY IGNORED!!! People used civilised and polite replies and stated their cases succinctly and very much to the point in virtually every single project that has been approved and it is all totally lost as these developments will ALL go ahead with all the bells and whistles attached and they will simply be the thin edge of the wedge. At this point to couch things in specific point forms that make great sense are probably consigned to FILE 13 never to see the light of day again so frankly I do not care any longer about the niceties!!

BTW the press conference with Aunty Edna that was critical regarding rhino poaching etc was not postponed but cancelled in its entirety as she was far too busy turning the first sod of the Hotel development in Skukuza! We have had the best of the Park I fear!

Good points, Penny, ubhejane and okie! X#X

The thing is, as Penny says, these suspicious developments, like the hotels and future stuff, are done surreptitiously. Normally big developments like these are shouted from the rooftops by .gov and SANParks, as community glorification or whatever the hell they call it now. If you look along the 5 years or so of the thread, promises are made regularly, but it seems it only slowly happens when money is found somewhere, as with the hotels.

Whatever.

But this monstrosity will represent an indefensible corruption of pristine wilderness, taking many years, for political purposes, that make the hotels look like a teaparty.

It has absolutely no tourism benefit regarding the scale, as said. A rustic camp with a small gravel road access to the s-52 would possibly be ok, but it is clearly meant for international transit, brutally so.

Especially in the increasing times of international poaching in Kruger, including elephant, this is a nightmare. I firmly believe that some government official has made it his/her pet project to create a Mozambique highway, in collusion with some Moz official. Bugger the ecosystem, I doubt if it even enters their minds.

Scientifically there is simply the obvious destruction of pristine wilderness.

The problem is the cynical political contempt and disregard for the future centuries, combined with questionable motives and the ever-present financial shadows that hang.

Fred de Groot Dear Sir Thabang, from the outset here it would seem that you would prefer not to engage in any normal face to face discussion!!! Your website, not very user friendly, with regard to PPP's. Till such time that your website conforms to the standards of ease for public access, will the status of this basic report not be accepted as a transparent document!!
This document supposedly suggesting that the Shangoni gate endeavour( SANPARKS), be justified!!
Thank you sir Thabang,
Fred de Groot.

A request forwarded to the Environmental Practitioner, handling this case!! Concerns of this magnitude cannot just be dusted with a feather broom,..such their practice pre-empts!!
