If I understand correctly, the leopard wasn't attacking an SP employee?

That is normally the domain of the provincial parks department..Limpopo in this case? Weird? :-?

Monster Croc Takes Bots Tourist

Pretoria - A paramedic is missing after being attacked by a giant crocodile in front of her 12-year-old daughter in Botswana.

Beeld reported on Wednesday that Danelle Viljoen, 38, was on holiday with her daughter and friends at Shakawe in the Okavango Delta on Monday.

She was apparently watching her daughter and a friend's son while they were fishing, and sat in the shallow water to cool down. Almost immediately, a crocodile pounded on her and dragged her into the water.

The crocodile was estimated to be 5-metres-long and a metre wide.

Botswana police searched along the river but there was no sign of Viljoen.

Viljoen's daughter is being cared for by her grandparents, who are doing missionary work near Maun in Botswana.

I was there in 1999, nana! Signs all over the place warning against crocs and hippo, if I remember correctly!? :-?

There are spots where you can get to the river through the reeds and stuff...lots of fish!

It is a matter of time before there are is going to be a serious incident at Nkhulu. Yesterday we were attacked by baboon who came within a whisker of being klapped on the head with a jaffle iron by my husband as they are becoming fearless in their quest for food. The baboons are working in conjunction with the vervets and yesterday people lost their entire breakfast despite standing up to the animals. Other visitors who had ordered a gas cylinder and were unpacking their cool boxes from the boot of their car were attacked and they left in total panic as the situation is so clearly out of hand. The attacks are brazen and even a catapult does not frighten either the baboons or vervets off. Onlly when a very long stick was pointed at them did they associate this with a rifle and kept their distance. We could not eat at the table and had to wrap our jaffles in tin foil and eat in the car. It left a lot of people very shaken and some of the elderly were extremely distressed. Sanparks needs to deal with the situation as a matter of urgency. Their indemnity that they make you sign is meaningless when they are negligent about problem animals. I also believe that OSV guides now need to be fined unless they control their guests feeding the wildlife!!!
